Website Design

Website:

Before creating my website, I did a little bit of research on what a website should look like and include- specifically photography websites. One website I looked at is Amy Colleen's Photography Website. The first thing(s) you see when you open the website is a collage of photographs taken by Colleen so that potential clients can immediately see what her work looks like and what type of work she can do. At the top of the page, you see her business logo in the corner and pages you can click which lead to whatever it is labelled as; 'portrait' will show her portrait work and who is in these portraits, 'commercial' will show her commercial work and name who or what business she worked with, etc. She has an about page so potential clients can get to know her and decide whether they want to work with her or not. The 'contact' page is simple, you only need to enter your name, email, and message before you hit send.

I wanted to keep my website as simple as possible to avoid giving myself too much work so I selected a template from Wix and changed whatever I needed. The first thing you see when you open my website is a print ad I created for a project I did at college, and as you scroll, you see more photos and print ads I did so that any clients who open my website know what I do right off the bat. I have a small 'available services' section where I list what services I am able to do, and under that I have my contact information with my social media linked. I also have a 'let's chat' button just to offer a different way to get in touch. At the top of my website page, I have my business logo and a small and short description of what my site contains. I have three pages you can click just in case: one takes you to the home page ('home'), one to my selected work ('selected work'), and the other to my contact page ('contact').

Website Feedback:

I sent out a form for some feedback on my website so that I could make sure that it was up to standard. I asked if the website was easy to access and all form fillers replied that it was. Some form fillers opened the website through a computer and others through their phone, and it's important for me to make sure that my website can be accessed and used on both of these platforms. I asked if the website looked appealing and most replied yes, though others stated that I could have perhaps used more appealing images to display, and I agree- I didn't have enough time to look for good quality photos and works of mine so I just selected what I found first. I asked if you could tell what my job/area of expertise is just by looking at my website and all replied yes; It's important not to confuse potential clients on what type of work that you do so that they know exactly what they can get/are going to get. Lastly, I asked if there was anything that could be improved and most said no- the only suggestions I got for improvement were picking better works to display, like I had discussed before.
